The Sesame Street Birthday Party

For the 1st birthday of my best friend's daughter, I made a series of Sesame Street Baked goods. I used the Wilton Elmo Cake pan and it worked wonderfully. The instructions were easy to follow for the frosting as well. I used the star tip to pipe the red.

The finished Elmo cake. I think my hands will be stained red from the frosting for months. And I am sure all the kids will be walking around with red faces for the rest of the party!

Because kids (okay and me too) LOVE Cupcakes, I made cupcakes that looked like some of the different sesame street characters. Oreos worked perfectly for the mouths of oscar the grouch, ernie, and cookie monster. I used scissors to cut jumbo marshmallows in half and used these as eyes for cookie, big bird, and oscar and piped a little black gel icing as the irises. For Ernie, I used candy corn that I pushed in and piped black on for the eyes. I frosted Ernie in orange with a smooth finish and used red peanut m&ms for his nose and black gel for a little hair. For Oscar and Cookie fur I used Wilton tip #233. This part was possibly the most fun. You can kind of go a little wild just piping their fur...its very free form. Make sure you put a little fur over the oreo mouth for cookie!

For Big Bird, I used Wilton tip #102 and started at the outside and did a complete circle of feathers around the edge and then began another circle of feathers moving into the center. It actually amazed me how this tip worked out...looking at the tip you would never guess that it would end up looking like the right shape for big bird but it did! Candy corn then made the perfect beak!
These were definitely worth the effort. They were honestly easier to make then I had anticipated. They came out looking great but the best part was the look on the kids faces when they dove into the cupcakes!
